The earliest record we have of our Jeremiah Moore is his marriage in 1839 to Martha Morgan in Canada West (Ontario) by a Weslyan minister.  Y-DNA testing connects us to a Moore family in north and western Cork.  Jeremiah was found in the US in 1840 census, it shows his age as 30 to 39, making him born between 1810 and 1819.  Tithe records show 3 Jeremiah Moores in County Cork prior to 1839.

1832 Ballymodan, Cloghmanacsimon, Cork

1827 Ballyfeard, Ballyhamson, Cork

1825 Castletownroche, Bohana, Cork

I would think he would have been too young to appear in 1827 or 1825, so I thought I would try to find out more about the Jeremiah who lived in Ballymodan in 1832.  I am new to Irish research, so am looking for advice or help on how to proceed next.

Thank you,

Joyce (Moore) Hodges

  • Hi Joyce

If you search birth/baptisms Cork on www.rootsireland.ie/ for Jeremiah Moore you will get 9 matches - from 1827 to 1886 so they are all too late for your man.

on www.irishgenealogy.ie/ (free site) there is a marriage of Jeremiah Moore to Mary Riordan 1818 in Bandon Cork

If you use the Find My Parish option at the top of the page yopu can search for Ballymodan and post a message to them as well

    Best of luck
