I am looking for any information on my great great grandparents who supposedly came from County Cork.  Timothy Ford b. about 1812 & his wife., Catherine Driscoll Ford(e).  They had a son named Eugene, my great grandfather. They migrated to the US & settled in the Boston, Mass area.  Eugene married Johanna Riordan, daughter of Daniel Riordan & they had 2 sons, Timothy Aloysius & Daniel Alonso.........they lived in Chicopee, Mass.   Thank you, Mary Stair @ mts@gwi.net

Can you clarify if Eugene was born in Ireland and approximately what year he was born?

I did a quick check of Roots and could not find a baptismal record in Co. Cork for a Eugene or Owen Ford father Timothy from 1830-1850.  Roots only has marriage records for Ballyvourney starting in 1871.

  • Thank you......yes, from what I know, Eugene was born in Ireland in 1858. His Father, Timothy was born in (approx) 1812.  I havebeen told they came from Cork........Johanna Riordan(Ford), daughter of Daniel Riordan from Ballvourney in 1859.

  • Mary,

I am really hoping that this helps, and if it makes sense, that you have done a DNA test we can compare. I have been at a huge brick wall on my Jeremiah "Jerry" Ford for so long now, that I am really at the tearing my hair out stage, lol. So, I have been trying other sources to figure out exactly where he came from in County Cork.

In a book of excerpts from the In Search Of... ads placed in American papers by the family and friends of those who had lost contact with their loved ones in the Famine migration to the US.  Here is what it says; In Search of Jerry and Timothy Ford, brothers from Coachford, Parish Magourney, County Cork. Jerry, shoemaker by trade, left Liverpool on ship Home. Landed in New York in Spring of 1849. Timothy landed in Fall of 1849 at Philadelphia, PA. Respond to Sisters husband, Maurice O'Connor of LaSalle, IL. (I have found these records on the American end, but they don't give a whole lot of info on where they came from, or where they were headed to...

Could your Timothy and my Jeremiah be brothers? Here is what I know for sure: my Jerry was born in about 1822, in County Cork. His death certificate listed his parents as John Ford and Mary Driscoll. He came over sometime before 1852. His brothers, Cornelius, and William also ended up here in Toledo, Ohio as well. All three of them, named their first born son Daniel. Your Timothy also had a marriage to a Driscoll and a grandson named Daniel. ??? Could be a connection. I have found a descendant of William, and our DNA showed a match at 4th cousin or beyond. (On Ancestry) Cornelius' line died out with his spinster daughter, so no help there. Have you tested yet? On Williams sons baptismal record it lists Williams place of birth as Skull, County Cork. (Now called Schull) but so far we have found no sign of the family there, so the search continues. Oh, if it helps, they were all Catholic. And Jerry would be my great great great Grandfather. Hope any of this helps or make sense to you. I'd love to find more people sharing in the search so we can all work together.
