Looking for information on Timothy Sheehan born 1823, probably in Whitechurch. He had a brother Andrew born 1829. Both left during the famine time-- Tim probably in October 1848, Andrew sometime later. I have researched everything here in the USA but have never come across anything for certain on either of them in Ireland.  I have a record of a Timothy Sheehan who was on the ship Marmion that transited from Liverpool and arrived at Castle Garden immigration center in New York City on 3 October 1848, but I am unsure if this is indeed my ancestor.  Timothy married a Johannah Toomey (b. 1826), also from Ireland, and eventually settled in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania where he worked in the coal mines. He is rumored to have had a brother, Andrew, who was a blacksmith and also emigrated to the U.S.A. lived in Texas for some time and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I checked Roots Ireland and there were seven Timothy Sheehan baptismal records in Blarney from 1822-1827. I also checked for Andrew Sheehan records but found none in Blarney but five in other parts of Co. Cork. I assume you don't have the parents names? Here is the Blarney register

  • Many thanks, Roger! No, unfortunately I do not have the parents names. I have already pored over the Blarney Register for 1823 and been able to identify three possible baptism records for my ancestor. Could you let me know where you found the other five possibles for Andrew in other parts of Cork?

I was very happy that you were able to identify those others so quickly--is there a transcribed text version of the Register available online?

No transcribed test version now. In March, Find My Past (subscription site) plans to release a search feature where you can search through all the parish registers including those not now on Roots Ireland.

I did a general search for Andrew on Roots and saw five possible records. I did not open the records to get the parish records and would prefer not to go back since I am limited in how many records I can open on Roots. The March FMP release will provide the same records and since I'm not limited on FMP (that I know of) I would gladly search in FMP. Contact me in late March and presumably the new search facility will be up and I will check then.
