I have recently found that several of my ancestors came from this area: Michael Regan b. 1830 married Mary Sullivan 1832 - 1884 - died in Ireland, but I'm not sure where.

Michael emigrated with his grown children - Timothy b. 1852 d. 1908; John b. 1854 d. 1898; Patrick b.1856 d. 1888; Michael b. 1862 d. 1895; Johanna b.1863; Jeremiah b. 1865 d. 1899; Cornelius b. 1869 ( my great-grandfather). They all emigrated to Portsmouth, NH. In 1886, I'm not sure if the Johanna was a daughter or a daughter-in-law. I did find a young Katherine Regan age 16 listed in the household of Cornelius Regan, the 1910 US Census.

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.

  • Hello again Mary!

I went to www.irishgenealogy.ie which has the church records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross including Caheragh. I located the 1856 marriage record for Michael and Mary in the Drimoleague records Drimoleague was the parish to the northeast of Caheragh and was likely the bride's parish. I also saw baptismal records for Mary 1874 Kate 1872 Mic 1864 Timothy 1856 Jeremiah 1866 Cors (Cornelius) 1868 John 1858    The children born after 1863 should have a civil birth record image on the same site but use the civil records TAB. The death record for Mary should be there also but an image will not be available at this time. Death record images start in 1891 but the Irish government plans to add earlier death images in the near future.

Let me know if you have questions.
