Hello
I am trying to find information on my great grandmothers family. Her maiden name was Julia Hurley. According to a marraige record at the church she married in, her parents were named Patrick Hurley and Catherine Shea.
Julia was born in 1879 in County Cork. On the ship manifest when she came to the US, she listed "Barehaven" as her home.
I would be appreciative if someone can clarify for me if there is an actual location in Cork called Barehaven (or Berehaven?).
Secondly, does anyone have any information about the Hurley or Shea families in this area in the mid 19th century.
Julia had two sisters who also came to the states. My grandmother heard that there was also a brother, perhaps named Jack Hurley who returned to Ireland after being involved in labor riots either in Seattle or in the Butte Montana copper mines.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

It is on the Beara Peninsula.
In terms of Catholic parish divisions it falls under the parish of Castletownbere. Fortunately, the records from this parish have been uploaded free of charge to:

Another useful website is the Irish Times as they show what Catholic records are available in specific parishes. For Castletownbere follow this link:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:

I just noticed your message, check out Riobard O'Dwyer. He is from there. He did some books & research on family trees in Castletownbere. My parents are from there, I recently moved to Portland, OR. If you need any help I'd be happy to be a fresh pair of eyes. I have quite a lot of family there. It would help to narrow down the search by family nickname, or local area or church parish in Castletownbere she grew up.
