Dia duit. I am very interested in hearing from anyone with a Lucey connection, in particular a connection to the family once known as the "Cahireen" Luceys of Bawnatanaknock townland.

Also is someone able to tell me how I can go about finding when the Lucey family first occupied the farm at Bawnatanaknock. Just for the record the Luceys no longer reside there having sold to the Creedon family in the late 1920s.

  • Hello Raymond,

    and greeetings from east Galway!

I see that you have found Clondrohid in the meantime - well done!
(The site is still in beta and we are working on a good search engine and map so that parishes/townlands can be found more easily).

There isn't yet an Ireland XO group in Clondrohid but you could try these links:

  • Hello Ray,

Thank you very mcuh for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. You could try looking for the Lucey family on the land records called the Tithel Applotment Books (1823-38) and also the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). You seem o have an exact location, so this should help narrow down the search for you.

    All the best,

  • Hi Ray,

I have an abstract for deed 336/104/224050 (taken from O'Kief, Coshe Mang) which refers to the Luceys (Luoceys) of Baratardknock (Bawnatanaknock).

    "336/104/224050

    Barony: Muskerry. Townsend/Loucey

Lease dated 25th April 1778; Cornelius Townsend of Bridgemount, Co. Cork, esqr, demised to Darby Luocey of Kilgobbenett, Co. Cork, the mountain quarter of the lands of Baratardknock, situated in Bar. of Muskerry,  Parish of Clondrohid and County of Cork; term of 31 years; witnesses: Joseph Wallis of Mullinroe, Co. Cork, linen weaver; James Commins of Mullinroe, yeoman; sworn 23rd May 1780. Dept. James Alleyn."

As a matter of interest there were several marriages between Luceys and Sheas (of Kilgobinet) in the 1800s. It looks like the Luceys also had Kilgobnet and the Sheas married into the Luceys of this townland.

    Darby is also Jeremiah.

  • Hello Margaret

You may recall our earlier correspondence and only last month I travelled to Ireland and visited a dear old lady at Kilgobnet. It was her birthday and she was surrounded by family. It seems that there is a connection between her family (paternal) and the LUCEYs of Bawnatanaknock. She gave me her parents' names and now I need to write and find out her grand[arents' names, particularly her grandfather's names. It seems that Cornelius (the Luceys of Cahireen, Bawnatanaknock) was a cousin to one of this lady's forbears and I am hoping to confirm this once I know her grandfather's names.

Meanwhile, you mentioned there are O'Shea-Lucey connections (Kilgobnet) and I was wondering if you can enlighten me with some further details.
