I have been reviewing my research into the surname LUCEY and am a tad puzzled about two very similar place names that seem to me to be fairly close in proximity to each other. I am au fait with BARATHANAKNOCK townland but have also come upon a BARRATANAKNOCK on some maps. Can anyone tell me anything about the latter? Does it still exist? Is it farm, townland or ..............? Look forward to hearing from a local who, no doubt, will have an intimate knowledge of the surrounding areas.

First, I'm not local. I did look at the 1851 Index to Townlands in Ireland and the spelling of the townland in Clondrohid civil parish was Bawnatanaknock. I looked on Google Maps (and I'm sure you did also) and saw Bawnatanaknock but also saw Barrantanalock just to the east. Hopefully, someone local can explain.

By the way, just to the west of Bawnatanaknock was a townland called Dangansallagh and just below Dangansallagh was Dangansillagh!
