I am looking for anyone who is descended from James and Mary O'Byrne of Evergreen Rd, Cork City. John and Mary were both born in 1870. Mary's maiden name was Walsh. Together they had 9 children, Joseph, Bridget, John (Jack), Patrick, James, Samuel, Leo, Annie and Edward. My father, Samuel, emigrated to America in 1928; Jack emigrated to London. Those are the only ones that I know left Cork.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

As you would expect, we have many prior messages for the surname Byrne, however, I don't offhand see a message for Cork City. it may help others who see your message if you would add more detail on James and Mary e.g. year of births and marriage year. Thanks!

  • I added the information I found in the 1901 and 1911 census. They're listed as living at 50.1 Evergreen Road.

  • I got my Dad's birth certificate in June when I was in Cork. I grew up knowing my Dad's birthday was 2 April 1901. Imagine my surprise when the certificate read 9 April 1901! I've got records from the National Archives detailing service in the 1950s, which is impossible because he married my mother in 1951 in White Plains, NY and I was born there in 1953.

My father's name was Samuel Joseph O'Byrne. The birth certificate says Byrne. When I was a child, I remember him saying that he had to use ID from one of his brothers because of the quota system, that he'd have been too old to come to the States. If anyone can shed some light on him, I'd really appreciate it.
