I am searching for any information related to Patrick Sheedy 1800-1864.   He may have been born in this parish and his wife's name was Elizabeth.   Both Patrick and Elizabeth moved to America and are buried in Middletown Connecticut in St. John's Cemetery.   I would love to trace his family back farther.   A parish record may help.  His grave marker reads  Souls of  Parish of Donerail  County of Cork Ireland. • Hello Becky ref your query. You will have to rely on Church records as Civil Reg began in 1864. For Doneraile www.rootsireland.ie (Pay to view site) records dont begin until 1815.
www.nationalarchives.ie has some Sheedys listed on the Census 1901/1911.
Do you have Patricks marriage/death record as it may give parents names.

  • Becky:

I went into the Roots Ireland indexes and searched in the Doneraile records. There was an 1823 marriage record for a Patrick Sheedy to an Elizabeth. I could not determine her surname without purchasing the record. I also looked for Sheedy baptisms in that church with parents Patrick and Elizabeth and found three:

    John 1826

    Catherine 1832

    Michael 1836

I don't know if these records are for your family but they are a lead for further research.

Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching. I would review the Doneraile records at that time for your family.
