  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information.

If you haven't already - you could try checking the following for more information:

The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a ?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 records is available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad that appeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

    • Thank you for your support.
    • I have tried most of the sources you mentioned. I have come closest with this record from Castle Garden. I think this is Honora and most of the Children. I haven't yet found the immigration record for Michael and Patrick

    • I can't explain why Mrs. Coleman (travels as a Widow) this is the only Coleman family with the majority of the children the correct name and age. I have found many of them in America and Canada and the dates and places of their birth match. I have now found Baptisms for many of the children in the Dromtarriff Parrish mostly in Lagth. Baptisms for :
    • Johanna(Hanna),Honora,Julia,Bridget(Nettie),John,Michael,Patrick match their ages or year of births from census records and headstones.
    •
    • I have found census records 1860, 1870, 1880 for Michael and Honora/Nora Coleman with various combinations of children. The had a son Eugene in Ny.  They setteled in Geneso, Livingston Co.,NY. Some of their children lived in Connecticut, Canada, Missouri, Pennsylvania. I am still hoping to trace others.  Father Michael Coleman died in Geneseo/Mount Morris in Oct. of 1890.

    • Based on the Dromtarriff records The following were witnesses to the children's Baptisms: Wm Dehany, Mary Mahony, Mary Buckly, James Mahony, Patrick and Johanna Buckly, Mary Buckly, Daniel Doyle.
