Hello,

I am looking for information on my great, great, great grandfather Patrick Mackey.  The information I have is he comes from Ireland, settled in Flackville New York (northern by Ottawa CA), he was born around 1808 and according to his Thomas he came to America at the age of 16 so right around 1824.  I can find no record of the trip or how to link him back to Ireland and would be thankful for any help anyone can offer.  I have my family line going back to Patrick but right there it stops.  My grandfather always said we came from Cork county in Ireland so that is all I have to go off of.  Thank you and hope someone can help.

Not sure if this is the correct parish

  • Hello Oliver ref your post
Do you have a marriage record for Patrick as it may show his fathers name.
For such an early date of birth you will have to rely on a Baptism record as Civil reg only began in Ireland in 1864.
www.rootsireland.ie (pay site) has baptism & marriage records for North East Cork. I checked for Dungourney which comes under Immogela but records here do not begin until 1834.
What evidence do you have that Dungourney is the area he originated in?
www.nationalarchives.ie has Tithe Applotment records & Griffith valuation records for areas in proximity to Dungourney i.e. Mogeely.
There is still a Mackey family living in Dungourney (I live near there) so I may be able to check for you.

The Parish registers are due to become available online this Summer.

  • Thank you for the information.  The only info I have on him is that he was born around 1808 and according to the biography of one his sons he traveled to the new world around 1824. No mention of parents. He does marry but that is when he is in America. As for the parish all I know of him is my grandfather always said we come for Cork and my father thought Dungourey. It is strange I thought because of where he ended up that maybe he was a Robinson settler that left and went to America instead of Canada but no real information. Thank you once again.
