Daniel McCarthy and Ellen Bohan/Bohane were married on May 15, 1855 in Muintervarra, Cork.  Their eldest child, Eugene McCarthy was born on April 5,1857 in Auburn, New York.  So they must have emigrated to the USA between 1855 and 1857.

Daniel was born around 1800 and Ellen around 1829.

Eugene McCarthy and Richard Tobin were the witnesses at their marriage.  I understand fathers usually witness a marriage and the first born is often named after the father's father.  Eugene born in 1857 follows that pattern and he named his son Eugene Daniel. I wonder, however, if the Eugene who witnessed the marriage was Daniel's father or his brother since Daniel was 55 years old and it was post famine. Furthermore, a Eugene McCarthy was married in the same parish on Febuary 27, 1955, only a few months earlier, to Johanna Murray.  The witnesses to their marriage were Cornelius Murray and Richard Tobin.  I have not idea who Richard Tobin might be but he witnessed both Daniel and Eugene's marriages.

I am also wondering if Daniel might have been married before as he is 55 years old and it is post the Great Famine.

I would love to connect with any relatives or learn more about my ancestors.
