Catherine Cronin is my great great grandmother.  She was born in 1837 in County Cork.  Today in FamilySearch christening information came up for a Catherine Cronin christened on 21 November, 1837 in Inchigeelagh Parish with parents listed as Corn. and Norry and siblings Hannah, Denis, Norry, and Bridget.

My records show that Catherine came to America in 1856 with a relative.  She spent time somewhere in the eastern part of the U.S. and then moved west to the state of Wisconsin where she married Thomas Carroll from Co Limerick.

I don't know if Corn. and Norry are her parents but was directed to Inchigeelagh when we visited Ireland years ago so I'm hoping this connection works.

Thank you in advance for any information you can share.

  • Thank you for your research!  I'm hoping you have found the connection I need!!!  I'll post my inquiry in the Dromtarriff parish site to see if I can find more information.  I was able to locate the baptismal record for Catherine Cronin that you cited in Family Search.  On that site I don't see a Hanora with Dan Cronin and Ellen Sheehan listed as the parents.  I do see a Hanora with Dan Cronin and Hanora Sheehan as parents and another Hanora as well.  I can't find an entry for the Columia arriving in New York in 1859,  Anyway, I'll keep checking.  Thank you so much for your help.

  • Hi

I haven't done a huge amount of research but have a Hannah Cronin married a Daniel Dineen in Inchigeelagh and had 3 children that I can find - Patrick 1818, Narry 1821,Tim 1824.  Patrick was my g,g.g grandfather he married Norry Keleher on11 feb 1836, and thier daughter Ellen b.17 September 1837, married James Bishop in March 1859 in Lewisham,Uk, where Patrick was present.  They emigrated to New Zealand in 1862.

I haven't gone back any further but as you talk of a Hannah it is possible that they are the same family, as often births in these families were way spread out with no birth control etc. My grand mother was born 28 years after her eldest sibling!

I'll do some more research and see what I find and get back to you.
