I am searching for information about Michael Sheehan from Inniscarra, County Cork, Ireland, born about 183O and his wife, Ellen or Nellie Walsh. They lived in the Curraleigh, Bridgestown and Coolatubrid townlands in the mid to late 1800's. Ellen may have had a brother John Walsh and other siblings.

Michael and Ellen had seven children that I am aware of-- Johanna (b. July 1859), Margaret (b. May 1861), Michael (b. August 1863), Ellen (b. March 1866), Patrick (b. June 1869), Mary (b. June 1872), and Robert John Sheehan, born 25 November 1878.  Five children immigrated to the United States in the 1890's and settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts-- Michael, Ellen, Patrick, Mary, and Robert.

Michael Sheehan, the son, married a Mary Looney (b. 11 March 1873) from Aghabulloge. The marriage took place in the USA. Mary's parents were Jeremiah Looney and Julia Cronin. Both were born around 1840.  Jeremiah's parents were John Looney and Hannah Minihan.  Julia's father was John Cronin and Mary Riordan, from Aghabullogue, too.

Mary Looney had three brothers, John, Daniel and Jeremiah, and four sisters Julia, Hanora, Margaret, and Hannah. All of the children, but John, Jeremiah and Hannah, immigrated to the United States in the 1890's and setlled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, too.

Robert Sheehan married an Elizabeth Delahanty in the USA and had a daughter, Helen Elizabeth, (b. 7 Aug 1908). Elizabeth Delahanty was from Rhode Island. They had a daughter, Helen, who married Bill Cleary from Cambridge.

Mary and Patrick Sheehan never married.Their sibling Ellen married an Arthur Higgins from Newfoundland, Canada.

Any information about the Sheehan-Walsh families (or the Looney-Cronins) and their decendents would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Thanks again for your message. I have previously responded to your post about the Looney?s in Aghabullogue and Inishcarra.

Once again I suggest that you look in the Church records in Inishcarra parish for information.  Catholic records for the parish began about 1814 in the parish so you  may be able to find Michael or Ellen?s birth records there if they were born there. You may also be able to find some record of their parents.

Civil registration began in 1864, so you should also be able to find record of any birth, marriages or deaths after this year in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

    http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

you can search the indexes to these records online at:

    https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347

For more information on these records go to:

In my previous message I also gave you a list of some useful websites and contact details of the Heritage Centre in North Cork. Here is a link for that message:

Once again, please be patient- as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
