I appreciate any insight you may be able to give me on the following people.

Catharine Furey b. Aug 1845

Mary T Furey b.  Jul 1849; Baptised 23 Jul 1949 in Kilbroney Parish, County Down, Sponsor 1 was Thomas McAvera & sponsor 2 Elizabeth.

Sarah Mary Furey b. 5 Aug 1850 in Co. Down

The parents of these women were:

Matthew Furey/Furrie b. abt 1820 in Ireland

Sarah Ellen McCovera/McAvera/McCavera b. abt 1830 in County Down.

I am assuming that each of these women were baptised and mabey confirmed in the Kilbroney Parish.

I have had difficulty finding information on their parents and think that I may have the wrong spelling.  I would also like to know if there were siblings to these 3 women.

Thank you very much!

  • Tina:

I located the baptismal records for Sarah and Catherine and also a James (you have Mary). Sarah and Catherine were older than what you had in your note.

  • Thank you so much Roger!  I have emailed your response to cousins to look over.  It sure looks correct to me and I will let you know what they think as well.

Would you guess that Matthew Fury came from the same area?

  • Tina:

I looked at the 1863 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Down and most of the Furey/Furys were in Killyleagh civil parish which is not close to Kilbroney. There were a few other entries in Bangor and Kilmore parishes again not near Kilbroney. No Mathew entries.

I also did not find a Mathew baptismal record on Roots Ireland.

  • All your information is good and useful and I will look at those other parishes as well.
Is it possible for you to look at the Kilbroney records for Sarah Ellen or Ellen Sarah McCauvera?

  • Tina:

I did the searches you requested from 1820-1840 for all of Co. Down--- no record.

  • Thanks again Roger, you have helped me a lot!  I am sorry for so many replies to your post.  I didn't think it was going through.

I think it is late in Ireland so I wish you a good night from California!
