Since John was born in 1835, no civil birth record is available. Civil registration started in 1864. The only record you can get if you want something official is to contact St. Bartholomew's church in Kildorrery for a baptismal record. I'm sure there will be a fee.

Here is a link to the parishes in the Cloyne dioces. Scroll down for Kildorrery and click the link for contact info including an e-mail address,

  • Hi Marion

I am in the Kildorrery Ireland Reaching Out Group with Lena.  I am wondering what your interest in John Patrick Coughlan is?  Are you a descendant?  The reason I'm  asking is that my mother in law was Hannah Coughlan, born in Springvale in 1914 to Arthur Coughlan and Mary Hannan.  You can view them in the 1911 census. Find Kildorrery and then Glasvaunta, which is what Springvale was called, then you will see there were only two families there and one of those was the Coughlans. Hannah married Jack Hennessy and they continued to live in Springvale and their two sons still live there.  Could we be related?

    Best wishes from Kildorrery

  • Brenda my john Coughlan was born in 1835 I don't think there is a direct relation to my john but maybe in the long run they are. need a lot more info to tie them together
my john came to NYC about 1851 and married an Ellen also from cork . one of their children is Hannah Coughlan born 1860 died 1948. they had 8 children and only 4 were living in 1910. Arthur, Julia Hannah and another one I don't have the name of.wouldn't it be great if we could connect. I am planning a trip in a few years to Ireland and am trying to get enough info to make the trip successful. my one wall is the maiden name of ellen johns wife.

  • hi Brenda

I think I have moved forward on John Coughlan. If u go to find a grave and go to search for a name and put in Ellen Coughlan in Woodside Calvary cemetery. I think it is in kings county but u can Google the county for new York NY. u will see my john's grave stone which gives his birth place. I just received his death certificate. I wish I knew how to show it to you but he is in this document PATRICK COUGHLAN.. He died in Hoboken NJ(His wife Ellen lived there with her daughter Johanna) in 1900 and 1910 as a widow .His date of death Feb. 8th 1892. his father is Patrick ,mother Hannah both born in Ireland. Both of them are buried in Calvary along with their children and one grand child named Ellen McKeon. all this info is documented. the problem is Patrick (or John aka) his age is 65 which makes him born in 1827 but I have been told by Lena that she has a baptism for John Coughlan Parents name Patrick Coughlan and Johanna born Feb. 2 1835 the death certificate age of 65 years does not the baptism and the age are 8 years different. I am kind of sure that because there were no birth records for 1825 that he could have been baptized when he was 8 years old. what r your thoughts and can I write to the church for more information. and what church would he be in I think I am hot on the trail but need some up close help on this.Thank You marion m McKeon Hill
