I have just posted briefly on the main board, then realised I could have come directly here!

My grandmother Kathleen Duffy was born in Kildorrery in 1910, but left for England in the late 1920s. I have been researching my family tree for many years now, and would love to know if there are any distant family in the town. They would have to be Hanleys I think, from her mother Bridget's family: I believe the only Duffys left in the area would be in Glanworth and Kilbeheny, as only the one brother, my great grandfather Joseph Duffy,  settled in Kildorrery.I look forward to finding out more of Kildorrery.

  • Hi Tracey,

Could please post your message on the Glanworth parish page here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/glanworth-cork

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Tracey

I think you could be related to Duffys who lived on the Limerick Road, Kildorrery.  There was a Joseph Duffy who could possibly be mmarried to a Hanley woman.  His children included two sons, Jjoseph Michael and Tom who emigrated to England and never married.  There may have been older brothers and sisters.  The baptismal records for Kildorrery are not available at the moment as they have been sent away to be digitally recorded.  I can put you in contact with someone who knew the Duffys. ther are lots of Hanleys in the parish and I will put out feelers and see if I can connect themn to the Duffys.  I will get back to you when I get further information.

Hope you have a lovely St Patricks Day.

  • Hallo Brenda and a Happy St Patrick's Day to you. This is definitely my family and I have details of all of the brothers and sisters. Sadly Joseph Michael died earlier this year at the age of 94.

My query was really about Hanleys still in the area; my years of family tree research have given me a long list of names of Hanleys, some of whom I can link to my own family, plus many others...it would be nice to sort them all out!

Some years ago I had a letter from Sheila Collins in Kildorrery, who knew the family. Please pass on my best wishes to her.

I look forward to hearing from  you.

  • Hi Stacey

I have been talking to some Hanleys.  If you send me your research on them I may be able to make a contact for you.  My email is brendahennessy1@eircom.net.

  • Hi Stacey

Did you find any connection with Laura Hanley's family.  If not  I may be able to follow another line.  Do you know for sure that thefamily tree you sent me is your line.  My husband thinks it's a different family because of the Kennedy connection.  It may be more difficult because I think the last of that family that was here was unmarried.  However, if you get back to me I can make further queries.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Stacey

I'm surprised that you haven't heard from Laura.  I must check see if I've got her right email address.  Anyway I think we were on the wrong track.  One of the ladies in my group has done a lot of research for you and has what I believe is very positive information for you.  She will be getting in touch with you on this site.

    Regards

  • Hi Tracey

I have definite information that your Hanleys came from Glenanaar, Ardpatrick, Co Limerick which is only a few miles from Kildorrery.  Michael Collins who is now in his 90's, brother of the late Sheila, knew Bridget Hanley and visited the Hanley homestead in Glenanaar when he was young.  There is still a family of Hanleys living in Glenanaar but I don't know them personally.

I know Duffys from Flemingstown, Mitchelstown.  They are definitely descendents  of your Duffys and I intend to make contact with them shortly on your behalf.

  • Hallo Lena and thank you for your message. I had thought my grandmother's mother Bridget Hanley was from Toureen, is this anywhere near Glenanaar?

I look forward to hearing more of the Duffys- they were easy to find in the online census returns as the only Kings County born Duffys in Co Cork, but after that I am stuck.

I did enjoy the Pictorial History of Kildorrery that I ordered from you recently -I think there were lots of photos from Michael Collins in it, I recognised my great uncles Joe and Tom Duffy. I have now passed it to my dad Michael Ryan who often visited Kildorrery with his mother and sister Philomena. He definitely remembered the milk wagons lined up for the Creamery.

    Best wishes

  • Hallo Lena, thank you for this message.

lookingat all my Duffy notes, Peggy must be the daughter of my grandmother's first cousin Joseph  Duffy, born in Kilbehenny to Patrick Duffy and Bridget Hanrahan.

This is all very exciting, I shall definitely come for a visit. Would it be possible to get contact details for Peggy?

    Best wishes

Hallo Brenda I haven't heard from Laura - either I have been consigned to her Spam bin or she is horrified at all the mistakes! I would be delighted to find out anything of this line ( particularly as Kildorrery seems to be the only area of my tree that has a helpful group) My information came originally from the Mallow Heritage Centre, added to by the Family Search website, which I know should not always be relied upon. From memory (I am at work tut tut!) there was a Kennedy that married Katie Hanley - I may have assumed a link to my Hanleys given dates of birth etc but am quite happy to be proved wrong. I have more concrete proof such as birth and marriage certificates for the descendants of Richard Hanley as he was my GGGrandfather. I have plenty of Hanley details for people I have not allocated to my tree, so I would be interested in any hanley details. I saw in the second Kildorrery Pictorial Guide that several more recent Hanleys were shown, so I know they are out there! Tracey

  • Hi Tracey

Sorry I got your name wrong last time. I'm delighted that Lena has got those contacts for you.  I will consult with Laura again and see what happens.  It seems almost certain that you could be related to both my husband and to Lena.  We found your family tree so interesting and I'm sure some of your other research would be of interest to more Kildorrery people.  You can meet us all when you come!

It would be great if you could spread the word about Ireland Reaching Out to any Irish descendents you know regardless of what county they are from.

    Will be in contact again
