  • Hi Denise,

I think you and I may be distantly related. My grandmother was Mary McCarthy who had a sister (Norah) and a brother (Jim). Norah McCarthy visited us in Cork in the '70s and possibly the early '80s. On one of these visits she stayed with Jim in Kealkil for about a week.

    Hello Denise,

I hope the following may be helpful.  I have been researching the LEARY / O`LEARY family from Droumbroe / Drumbrow, Bantry and found the following marriage certificate from 3 February 1874 (in Bantry), which seems to link my LEARYs with your McCARTHYs.

Both parties to the marriage had been married previously and widowed.  The Groom, Daniel LEARY, was 33 and a farmer at Droumbroe.  The bride was 28.  Her name is Margaret LEARY [i.e. her first marriage was also to a LEARY];her father`s name was Felix McCARTHY (a farmer, though he was deceased).  Margaret`s residence is given as Cappabue (the "u" is not very clear but I think this is correct).  Cappabue is in Kealkil.

Would love to hear back from you.

    Becky

  • Hey -  this reply is for both Declan and Becky... sorry for delay

    please email me at     dsanford2@earthlink.net

Declan;  I am missing the whereabouts of Mary McCarthy, and James/Jim did immigrate to the US but disappears from records after 1931.  Maybe he returned home?  Do you have a photo of Norah?  We could compare to make sure.  Who did Mary marry?  is there a connection to Inchiroe that you know?  Please email me.

Becky;   That is really interesting info.  It may help in future.  I am still stuck figuring how the Cappabue McCarthy's connect to each other.  I have been taking notes on births, marriages and deaths trying to place them but church records don't go back far enough.  Maybe Margaret could be the sister to Michael's father James (b.1838-1845), but his marriage record doesnt list parents unfortunately... stuck -  email me.

    Thanks all.  Denise
