I am coming over to Bantry in June and have managed to do a bit of research on the Latter Day Saints site unfortuntely there are some certificates that I cannot buy from the General Records Office (not sure what it is called in Ireland) as they only do BMD's from certain dates. Where is the best possible place that I could look at the parish records for Bantry and get copies?

Thank you for any advice that you can give me.

  • Hi Shelley Civil Registration in Ireland started in 1864 so any earlier records would be Baptism. If you like to give me names of your interests & approx dates I will take a look for you. Regards Frances

  • Hi Frances,

Thank you for any help that you can offer.

I'm still doing the research online of what I can to get, dates etc. but it can bring up thousand's in one go!

I am unable to order the below at the moment:

Marriage: Timothy Kelly to Ellen Connor, Bantry, Ireland, Jul-Sep 1918

Death: Patrick Kelly, Age 53, Bantry, Ireland, Jul-Sep 1900

I also want to get check if the below are the correct relatives, my grandfather's siblings, the names are correct but there were a couple with the same names but different years but these seem to fit without clashing:

Birth: Michael Kelly, Oct-Dec 1917, Bantry

Birth: Cornelius Kelly, Apr-Jun 1921, Bantry

Birth: Denis Joseph Kelly, Oct-Dec 1923, Bantry

Birth: Stephanie Kelly, Jan-Mar 1925, Bantry

Birth: Eileen Kelly, Jul-Sep 1928, Bantry

Birth: Fanny Kelly, Oct-Dec 1884, Bantry - unable to find a marriage or death yet for her

Birth: Denis Kelly, Oct-Dec 1897, Bantry - I believe this one died in 1923 but can't find anything on him

I'm also looking for a marriage between Patrick Kelly & Ellen Sullivan, I can't find Ellen but have found two Patricks:

Marriage: Patrick Kelly, Jan-Mar 1882, Cashel, Ireland (I don't think it is this one as the area is not near to where they originally were).

Marriage: Patrick Kelly, 1877, Cork, Ireland

I could go one but I better stop now.

I have bought a couple of certificates but sadly it only mentions the road and not a number i.e. Scart Road, Blackrock Road, Customs Gap, is there a way to find out the number?

I don't expect you too look for all of these for me, but I am really grateful for any help you can offer. I'll be in Bantry for 3 days (over a weekend) and Cork City for two days and am willing to visit parish records if I know where they are held, fingers crossed that these are on parish records.

    Thank you again,

    Shelley

  • Hi Shelley you can obtain photocopies of baptism/marriage from www.groireland.ie

Birth Denis Kelly December 1897 Reg District Bantry Vol 5 Page 17

Birth Fanny Kelly December 1884 Vol 5 Page 21

Marriage Timothy Kelly/Ellen Connor Reg Dist Bantry Sept 1918 Vol 5 Page 19

I would suggest you contact the Parish Office of St Finbarrs Church Bantry (1825) more than likely they may have the baptism/marriage records you need.

    Sandra Cronin: office@bantryparish.com

For baptism records/marriage records for Bantry up to 1881 if you need to delve back further www.irishgenealogy.ie

Good luck with your search. Frances

  • Hi Shelly,

Have you tried www.irishgenealogy.ie?  The original registers from several parishes are freely available online at this website.  I have Kelly's from this area, too, so I know that Bantry is included.  I'm not sure how late the records go, but it might be worth a glance.  Good luck!
