My gg-grandfather Patrick Bakey born about 1832 with father Peter and mother Bridget arrived in Adelaide South Australia 4 June 1857.  Patrick Bakey came from Co Clare and the Griffith Valuation has only one Peter Bakey for Co Clare and who lived at house 7b, Kilcornan Road, DeerPark Middle Townland near Ennistimon.  Patrick Bakey married Anne Shannon probably from Co Clare; Anne arrived in Adelaide on 30 April 1855.

I am seeking further information about Patrick and Anne, my gg-grandparents, and their ancestors.

  • Hi Bernard,

I was wondering if the name could have been Beaky as there were Beakys in Ennistymon up to 1944. An Edmund Beaky married a Joan Gleeson in Miltown Malbay in 1830 abd had a daughter who married a Dan Garrihy - their children al emmigrated on New York.

There is a record of a death of a Patrick Beaky from Cahersherkin (near Ennistymon) and later Fanore who died on Jan 1 1944 and is buried in the Old Cemetery Ennistymon. This may or may not be of help.

    Kind regards

  • Bernard,

Patrick Bakey and Anne Shannon are my g g grand parents as well, on my father mother's side of the family. My grand mother was Gertrude Baker(Egan) her mother was Margaret Bakey, the daughter of Patrick and Anne. A group of her family is travelling to Ennistymon this year in October for a family reunion. I'm interested particularly to know what source you used to discover the dates of their arrivals in Adelaide. I can only locate Patrick's arrival in on the 4th June 1857 on the Tantivy. Would love to make contact and compare notes. I have a Heritage web site called Baker Family with 800+ people.

    Look forward to your reply

Please send an email to b23j2sm@bigpond.com  to facilitate quick communication.

I have the answer to Anne Shannon's emigration to Adelaide.  Also can talk about the Dohertys of Co Clare.  I note that a letter from "Pat" was mentioned on a Facebook Page - I can possibly explain this.

I will be in Ireland October 2017 visiting my daughter and family and could be interested in the family reunion

If you live in Adelaide, I will be there this week - Thursday, Friday and Saturday

    Regards
