  • I have an ancestor James Hussey b.Ireland 1815 but I don't know where.  He died  in Australia aged 40 and was married to Catherine. The name James continues to appear for several generations.

  • HI Mary,

Richard Hussey was born in Kinsale. He emigrated first to London (married Hannah McDonald there in 1832) and then moved to Boston, USA in 1857. Richard disapears from the records at this point. From Boston Hannah emigrated to Ballarat in 1859 with her sons Richard & Edward, and daughters Mary, Ann, and Margaret. Son Robert died before leaving England, and Henry stayed in Boston.

I found the follwoing on a website that shows that there was a James Hussey in Kindale, who emigrated to New York, USA. He ould have been the same age as Ricard and Hannah's children.

    Regards,

    Penelope

I'm looking for info on my great-great grandfather, James Hussey, who lived in a town called Old Head of Kinsale in County Cork, Ireland. (I am told that it is at the edge of a cliff overlooking very rough waters & is lined with ancient lighthouses.)

He was a laborer who married Mary BOHAN(E), most likely from County Cork as well, but I am unsure.

They had 4 children: May(Minnie), Margaret(Maggie), Robert(Robbie), and Ellen (my great-grandmother). The only date I have is Ellen's birthdate of January 2, 1880. She later married Stephen HARRINGTON and had 6 children: Stephen Jr., Edward, Richard, Marguerite, William, & Helen (my grandmother).

  • That's my posting from 14 years ago! LOL

I've learned some information in the past few years:

James HUSSEY was born 10 Dec 1839 in Ballinspittle, Co Cork.

He married Margaret BOHANE (b.circa 1850 possibly Ballinspittle, d.circa 1880 Ballymackean) on 5 Feb 1874 in Ballinspittle - witnesses Frank BOHANE & Catherine COLLINS.

They had at least 4 children: Robert (b 1875 Ballinspittle, d.1937 Bklyn,) Mary (b.1876 Ballinspittle, d.1952 Bklyn,) Margaret (b.1877 Ballinspittle, d.1944 Bklyn,) and Ellen (b.1879 Ballinspittle, d.1963 Bklyn)

James immigrated to Brooklyn, NY, USA on 3 April 1903, listed as a slate cutter, illiterate, with $3 in his pocket, going to live with his brother, Richard. He died 27 Dec 1907 in Brooklyn and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.

His parents: Henry HUSSEY & Mary FIHELY  (according to church records found at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie.  Henry is found living in Ballymackean, per Griffith's Valuation in 1853.

His siblings: (I've found only 2)

Richard HUSSEY (b. Dec 1834 in Ballinspittle, d.11 Mar 1911 in Brooklyn, Kings, NY USA. He immigrated to NY circa 1865. Married Mary DUNLEY - one son, Henry b.1880, d.1887 Bklyn, NY.

Edward HUSSEY (b. 21 Aug 1844 in Ballinspittle, d. ?) No further info found on Edward yet.

I'm very interested in making a connection to other HUSSEY families as it's not a common name from that area!
