I am a 69 year old female with 4 brothers. Our Great great grandparents Patrick Henry Sullivan and Elizabeth Hyland are from Clonbullogue, Clunsast, Kings County.  They immigrated to Onieda, New York, USA  in 1824 for the building of the Erie Canal.  Patrick Henry is the son of Patrick Brendan Sullivan and Margaret Rita Elizabeth Honan.  They were recruited to come to America to work on the Erie Canal. They began St. Mary's Catholic Church on Irish Ridge in Onieda, New York.

Then my great grandfather, Thomas Sullivan married Mary Flynn, also from County Cork, Ireland settled in Western New York , near Buffalo.

I found out through 23 And Me that I am in the H23 haplogroup.

I would like to visit Ireland in the next year or two.  Can anyone help me find relatives?

  • Hi Kathleen,

Thank you very much for your message. I hope that you are able to find some relatives before your visit!

It may be an idea to post this message to the specific parishes that are relevant to you. That way any volunteers that we have in the areas will be able to see it and hopefully assist and advise.

Here is the link to the Clonbulloge Roman Catholic parish:

Do you know what parish in Cork your ancestors came from? It will make your search much easier if you do. If you do know, I suggest that you join that parish page alos and post your message there.

When posting your message remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

    Genealogy Support
