My maternal grandmother was Jane Quin. According to her English Marriage Certificate she was born in Cork in about 1865. Her father was Richard Quin, occupation "gentleman". All I have been able to establish is that her mother was Nora Quin, born 1836 and that she had a sister Rosanna who was born in 1860.

Any help in finding out more about Richard Quin would be most helpful. I have spent many hours searching without any results

  • Very many thanks for your information.

The only other details which I have is that he is described on my grandmother's wedding certificate as a "gentleman" and that he emigrated (without his wife or any family members) to Australia or New Zealand where he was the "master of a benevolent institution.

The 1901 UK Census shows his wife Nora, b 1836 "widow". She was at that time staying in England with her daughter Jane (my grandmother).

There was another daughter Rosanna who died 9 March 1939, Sunderland, England, age 79.
