6 records are from Cork & 1 from Kilkenny

On ancestry.com.au the A Stute public member tree has him born in Cork 1831 and married to Mary Shea in 1860 in Bourke Victoria

  • Hi Alec,

I looked at my Convicts in Western Australia Dictionary and it states that he arrived on the "Phoebe Dunbar" on 31 Jul 1853. He was convicted in Cork, maybe it was Cork City. His offence was "Sheep Stealing" and was sentenced for 10 year transportation. He was given a Ticket of Leave on 29 June 1854 and his setence finished (expired) in April 1860.His Records state that when he was a convict, he was married (in County Cork?). Others have said he married Bridget Kenny, but I can't verify this with the WA Records. However a death for a Bridget Kelleher ocurred in 1908 (Registration No 556) in Perth WA. This may be her. I think he may have changed his name. I'll keep a look out for him.

  • Hi Alec,

From the Convict records in Western Australia, it looks like Bartolomew's Court date in Cork was 04 April 1850. From previous experience, the local papers in Ireland would have reported upon this case very soon after the conviction. Presumably the Court case was in Cork City and as such the papers in Cork City may have reported on this case in April 1850. It may be wise to search for these newspaper articles.
