Hello, I have had great difficulty trying to find siblings of great grandfather James Murphy born c 1861-1862 who came to Australia in 1885. I found in Newmarket registers the marriage of his parents Tim & Julia 5 Feb 1859 & baptism of older brother Dan 5 Mar 1860 but can't find James or any younger siblings. Mum told me he was from a large family and younger ones all stayed behind in Ireland. I have gone through hard to read register at least 3 times twice on microfiche when visiting Dublin from Australia & again on internet. I did find marriage of mother's brother Dan Brennan to Julia Foley on 30 Jan 1869 and baptism of 2 children James 29 Jan 1872 and Ellen 1 Feb 1874. These came to Australia in 1874 and 14 year old nephew Dan Murphy came with them. Residence when children were baptised was Scarteen. I met an elderly gentleman at Scarteen who I suspect would be descended from Denis Brennan brother of 3x great grandfather James Brennan who married Ellen McAuliffe.
I have done DNA testing on both my mother and myself in hope of finding more clues. This has resulted in some matches in USA with possible early ancestor link but nothing to help me find the missing siblings of great grandfather Murphy. Hope someone there can help.
Kind Regards, Carmel

  • Hi Carmel,

I have checked all possible records and came to the same result, only the baptism of Daniel in 1860, unfortunately the church records have some gaps, in general the baptism records start in 1833 in Newmarket.  It is of course possible that the siblings were born elsewhere or had a different mother

  • Hi Carmel

I am also looking for connections in Newmarket who live in Scarteen

Daniel Falvey 1800-1888 and Julia Lehane

They had 9 children 5 of whom migrated to Australia.

I have done the DNA test in Ancestry and in Family tree dna

I was wondering whether we are  a match.

I have added my great great grandfather Daniel Falvey to the Ireland XO Chronicles

    Cheers

  • Hi Helen, I haven't come across the name Falvey yet.  I have my dna done only through ancestry and also did Mum's. Do you also have your results on gedmatch?  I currently have a month subscription to roots ireland so trying to find some of the parish records there once I get matches for dna.  Very time consuming and getting a bit confused with trying to fit it all in and deal with my husband sitting waiting for me to go caravanning or shopping as now.

    Cheers, Carmel
