Does anyone have any information on the Kelleher family who lived at what was once a public house in Killeens.  The family were Bartholomew his wife Elizabeth, their children Daniel, Eileen, Jeremiah, Bartholomew and Christopher. They lived with Mary Casey who was the vintner and also Elizabeth's aunt.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Fingers crossed Ann

  • Hi Col,

Thank you for that information.  I should have mentioned that my grandparents were married in England  1904.  My grandfather was an Excise Office and travelled over here with his work.  I was just trying to find out any information on their family, their son Jeremiah, was my father.  Both Bartholomew and Elizabeth both died in 1917 and their children were orphaned.  I just wondered if anyone had any information about what their lives were like.  My father Jeremiah died in 1968 and unfortunately we do no have one photograph of him.  Any information would be grafefully received.

  • Hi Ann.

I am trying to sort this family out also !! They are part of mine.

    Your request re Elizabeth Kelleher.

Elizabeth was b. 9th May 1878 to Daniel Michael Kelleher (b.from Moanflugh Clondrohid)  Margaret Casey married 1874 in Cork.

    Sister Frances b. 16th March 1877 - d. 31 March 1911.

Brother Jeremiah b. 1st October 1883- haven't found anything else on him yet !!

Daniel Michael b.19th Jan 1817 -  7th Jan 1889 as per probate. Can't find the death recordas yet !!

Daniel had previously been married to a Mary O'Leary and had children.

    Two I have definitely found:

Patrick b. c. 1866 - died 18th Jan 1941 aged 82 at the house of his cousin Julia Hyde Killeens. Patrick never married.

Hannah b.c. 1866 - died 8th June 1900. Married to a John O'Leary Killeens 18th Feb. 1896 R.C. Church Blarney. Hannah gives Rathpeacon as her address. Hannah died in childbirth- she is buried in Clondrohid. Her husband subsequently re-married.

    Michael b. ? Went to the U.S.

John b.? Went to the U.S. also.

I am still searching for this Family myself.

My gt gt grandfather would be a Brother of Daniel Michael Kelleher's Father - Michael.

You can see Moanflugh in the 1901/1911 Census under Rahalisk.  All those Kellehers are your relatives and more !! Would seem that we are cousins!!

    Hope this is helpful.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Ann (Again!)

    Just found Bartholomew's Snr. Family.

They can be found in the 1901/1911 Census  - Ballincolly (St. Mary's, Cork).

Tragically their Mother Ellen nee Sullivan d. 15th November 1892.

    Father Jeremiah d. 21 Dec. 1908. Carpenter & Publican.

Bartholomew was originally registered as Jeremiah ! It was changed in 1898 !!. Presumably when he went for the Customs position.

Their other son Jeremiah was a sorteri n the G.P.O. London. Elizabeth was a Teacher. Frances managed the publicHouseafter their father died. Con Ellen & Mary.

There is a death notice for the death of Elizabeth Kelleher (d. 27th Dec 1916) - she is buried in Mathey Cemetery.

    Irish Examiner.

I do hope you receive these notices.

    Let me know.

  • Hi Una,

Thank you so much for your response.

My family are as follows Daniel Kelleher b.1852 Rathpeacon d.1889 Rathpeacon, married Margaret Casey 187??.  They had 3 children, Fanny born Killeens b.1878 -  d.1911 , Elizabeth b.1881 - d.1916  and Jeremiah b.1883 - d.1965.

My grandmother Elizabeth married her cousin Bartholomew Kelleher from Macroom.  They married in England in 1904 before moving back to Rathpeacon 1905.  They had 5 children Daniel b.1905 -  Eileen b.1907 - Jeremiah b.1908 (my father) -  Bartholomew b.1911  - and Christopher b.1913.  Both my granmother Elizabeth and grandfather Bartholomew both died in 1916 and their boys Jeremiah, Bartholomew and Christoper were placed in the Greenmount Industrial School in cork and not in the orphange as people I have met in Cork informed me.

I do however know my granfather Daniel Kelleher was related to Jeremiah Kelleher, carpenter, vintner from Ballincolly (poss. brother) and his children were my father's cousins.

I was really excited to receive your response.  Thank you so much.

    Hi All,

I am recently trying to trace my family history.  I am in the US.  My great-grandmother is Nora Kelleher.  She could have been born Hanora or Norah but I don't believe she was born Hannah.  I don;t have much information at all since it seems all members of the Kelleher side arelost or have passed on.  But the inofrmation I have received from death certs leads me to Daniel Kelleher.  On Nora's deathe cert or marriage cert her parents are listed as Daniel Kelleher and Mary Cannoll (Kineen).  I'm not sure if Mary Cannoll remarried (I saw the other information from Una and thought maybe her maiden name is O'Leary but that Hannah died as per Una).

Since I don't have information on my relative I was hoping someone knew of a previous Mary Cannoll in relation to Daniel kelleher.

I saw on another Millstreet page a person related to Dennis Kelleher (lives in Maine) that came to the states mention a baby of Mary & Daniel Kelleher coming to the states with Dennis and his wife.  If anyone knows of anything to help it would be appreciated.  I'm not sure if my great-grandmother was born out of wedlock or that Mary ran off?  Divorces were illegal, right?

Thanks for any information or connection.

    Regards, Eileen
