Happy to share diaspora information regarding the descendants of Joseph Reid (1854-1928) and Mary/Maria McErlane (1860-1929).  Eager to make further McErlane and Reid connections.

Joseph's father was also named Joseph (wife Ellen Scott) unsure of county (poss Antrim).  All farmed in Derrygarve, including Mary's father Hugh McErlane, but the above were married at St. Mary's in Greenlough which leads me to believe that she and father Hugh were of the McErlanes/McErleans of that area.

The 1901 and 1911 censuses can be found at www.census.nationalarchives.ie

You may want to look at the census returns for Derrygarve. I found Joseph and Ellen Reid. The record is below. looks like Ellen was born in Co. Derry if the census form is correct. There is also a Reed family. Also, found a McErlean and a McErlane families. I did not check the 1911 census.

  • Thanks Roger,

I have connected with the surviving Reid-McPeake cousins of my grandmother in Derrygarve and Randalstown , Antrim and gained some information on descendants of the Reid sibling who stayed behind. Going backwards on both lines Reid and McErlane is the problem thanks to the census losses. I'm fairly sure the McErlanes are from Greenlough.  Have no idea where Reids were before settling in Derrygarve.
I have checked out the census for 1901 and 1911. Joseph and Ellen were my 3x great grandparents and the 'Reeds' were misspelled but my 2x great grandparents. My 1X great grandmother is in the 1901 as well and emigrated before the 1911.

    Appreciate your help!
