My great grandmother Jane McFarland/e was born in 1856 Drumniecy and baptised in the Presbyterian Church Dungiven. My great aunt told me that her mother Jane was the youngest child of a large family and Jane's father was John McFarland/e. On some records he is recorded as a labourer and on others a farmer. Other children in this family were Maria (who married James Hunter) and Ezekiel wh emigrated to Canada about 1874. I do not know the name of Jane McFarland/e's mother. I would love to make contact with anyone who is researching this family.

  • Hi Beth

There is a record of the baptism of Jane McFarlane with father John in Derry 1856 on www.rootsireland.ie/

It MAY have the parents' names on it but costs 25 credits.

There are 63 McFarlane birth/baptism records with father John in Derry 1856 + - 20 years!

  • Hi Col
Thanks for your reply and YES I am sure that is the baptism (1 Sep 1856) for my great grandmother Jane McFarland/e. I have her birthday as "9 July" from a family birthday list my father wrote out in 1940 and Jane was aged 89 1/2years when she died 26 March 1946. Jane's baptism, marriage and NSW Death Certificate all list her father as John but unfortunately there is no mothers name. You mentioned that there are 63 McFarlane birth/baptism records with father John in Derry 1856 + - 20 years! I am not surprised - even in Dungiven Parish there seems to be at least three "John McFarland" and spouse having children - John McFarland and Nancy Ross, John McFarland and Mary Ann Scott m in 1845 and the John McFarland that I am researching !!! I feel I am working on a jigsaw puzzle with lots of missing pieces!      Beth
