I am seeking information about my 7th great grandfather James Savage. He was born in Ireland about 1670 and lived in Dublin after 1700. He was suppose to have owned a bleachery in Dublin. His son, James Savage, was born 1690 in Coleraine. He was married to Christian Hunter who was born 1695 in Dublin. James & Christian immigrated to the US about 1720 with their children.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.
It may be difficult to find information James as the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. Please also note that the Church of Ireland was the official church of the country and therefore the bulk of information that does survive for earlier periods is often from these registers.
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
Church records from Dublin city have been uploaded to Irish Genealogy?s website free of charge so you may be able to find some records, if there are any, relating to him here:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
It may be an idea to contact either Derry Genealogy Centre or The Dun Laoghaire Heritage and Genealogy Centre in Dublin for further assistance, however a fee may apply. Here are their emails respectively: genealogy@derrycity.gov.uk and cmalone@dlrcoco.ie
In the meantime some website that you may find helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
