Searching for the maiden name of Rosanna, born 11 Nov 1790 in Dungiven, who married John Daly.  Their first child, Elizabeth, was born in 1818 in Ireland.  They emigrated to New York.  Rosanna remarried in Philadelphia when John died.

  • You don’t say what denomination the family was. If RC the Dungiven parish records start in 1825, Presbyterian none before 1836 and Church of Ireland has records from 1778 onwards. (These early years, up to 1794 are held by the Vicar).

So unless the family happen to be Ch of Ireland, it doesn’t look like there are any records for the period you need. It may prove tricky to trace this family.

  • Thanks for your response and I absolutely know that it is tricky  I've been searching for years to find Rosanna's maiden name.  She remarried in Philadelphia in 1827 to Richard Welsh, however her maiden name does not appear on the Church record.  I have not found a civil record.  And since the family was raised RC, I presume that it would be RC records that I would need and obviously they are not available.  Her son, Hugh Daly, was born in New York in 1825 and I haven't found any immigration records. Any suggestions?
