Any connections to Thomas Gibson?  He was born about 1795, went to Canada as a young man, married Huldah Brayton before 1820 (birth of first child), lived/owned land in Hinchenbrook, Huntington, Quebec, Canada, and died in Canada after 1839 (birth of last child). Most if not all of his children and his wife, Huldah, moved on and settled in Wisconsin.

The only source provided for Thomas' birth, by other descendents, is a biography of his son, William H. Gibson which is brief and doesn't have any sources. ("Biographical History of La Crosse, Trempealeau and Buffalo Counties, Wisconsin." Excerpt from page 625)

Rootsireland does not have a Thomas Gibson b. in 1795 ...

This isn't a direct line of ancestry for me, just curious. Huldah (nee' Brayton) Gibson is my 1st cousin, 4 times removed :)

Thanks!

  • The name Thomas Gibson is quite common in Ireland. For example, in the 1901 census there were 165 people of that name, 21 of whom lived in Co Derry. (In the 1831 census for Co Derry there were 11 people of that name).  So it would have been equally common in the late 1700s. You really need some additional information to try and narrow the search a bit. You may struggle though because records from the 1700s are few and far between, and the records for the parish where this ancestors originated may not go back to the 1700s.
