I am writing Co. Donegal because I saw the Griffith Valuation of 1850 lists the most COYLES as being in Donegal. My family name is possibly pronounced "Coyle." It is CAUGHELL.
Has Caughell possibly been lost in the centuries since the 1700's and changed to easier names to spell? My family left to go to Holland.
In the book "Births and Baptisms 1620-1911" which is on Ancestry.com, I found a few baptisms of babies named Caghill or Caghall. Do you think this is a form of Caughell?
Is Cahill the same name as Caughell?
Thanks for any help,
Sharon
