Hello,

I am seeking records for Clare Presbyterian Church.  from A History of Congregations in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland 1610-1982  I copied this information:

...the Greenbank church started in 1862, and that prior to that Moville residents attended the Presbyterian church called Clare:  "The original church was at Clare (it was known as Old Moville), three miles on the Derry side of Moville..."

On inquiry, the Presbytery responded, "We have no records for the older congregation at Clare/Old Moville"

Does anyone know where they might be??

Thanks!

  • PRONI don't have any records for this chruch. If the Presbytery say they have no records then I would assume that the records have been lost. (Not uncommon as you'll probably be aware).

The records for Clar Presbyterian church form part of the records for the Parish of Upper Moville and can be accessed in proni and elsewhere. when the 'new' Presbytterian church was built in Moville town in the 1860's The meeting house at Clar continued to be used up until the 1960's I believe, it is no longer standing but the graveyard is still there and is still occasionally used.

The records from the church date from 1833 and form part of the records for Moville Presbyterian church. is there someone you are interested in I have done quite a lot of research in the pparish
