I am looking for information about Solomon Campbell (about 1775 - 1840), who is my 3 x greatgrandfather. I have found entries on the internet relating to the areas of Drumatoland, Sheskinapoll and Momeen (Momien) mentioning Solomon Campbell but have nothing to tie them to my family. Solomon had at least two sons. John Niall Campbell emmigrated to America, William John Campbell  (my 2xggrandfather) became a Presbyterian Minister in Ballymena, Co. Antrim, where he served for 53 years. I believe Solomon's wife was called Martha, her surname was possibly Rentoul. I am guessing this from the fact that William called one son William John Pentol (Rentol) Campbell. There is also a birth in the BDM's for a Solomon John Rentoul Campbell 1889. This may be a connection too. On a recent trip to Nthn Ireland I investigated a family story that the family came from the area around Raphoe town but this came to nothing and I now believe that it might be the Parish of Raphoe which covers a much wider search area.

  • The Presbyterian Historical Society has a record of all their Ministers careers, including usually some basic birth and educational details. (Known as ?FASTI?). So I would contact them to see what information they have on John Niall Campbell. It may record his place of birth.
