Steen.pdf (57.88 KB)

for some years I've been researching the Steen families of Taughboyne - famers in Dromore Little and Dromore Big. There were a lot of them. There's a John Steen, "a respectable farmer", who died in 1837 aged 96, and the most recent ones I've found died in the 1950's and 60s.

Details are published at https://familytrees.genopro.com/bonjedward/terkelanderik/default.htm?page=toc_individuals.htm  (click on S, then Steen).

I've uploaded a graphic display of what I have so far (PDF file), and am hoping someone will recognise this family.

My ancestor is Rebecca Steen,  https://familytrees.genopro.com/bonjedward/terkelanderik/Steen-Rebecca-ind00187.htm who must be related to these Steens. Her sister was baptised in the Church of Ireland in 1820, father Joseph Steen, labourer in Carnshannagh. On Rebecca's death cert. (in Scotland), he's listed as a farmer.

Most of the church records are presbyterian, a few are Church of Ireland.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

I hope someone with a connection to the family will be in touch. In the meantime, I wanted to invite you to add your ancestor's details to our XO Chronicles. You can learn more about it HERE and it might be another avenue to consider so that your ancestor's details can be seen by others.

    Best wishes
