my wife’s GG Grandfather was Manus Boyle. He married Bridget McFadden from Fintown, County Donegal. Their known children were: John, James,  Delia. John and James came to the US in 1888 or so. Any information of the family would be greatly appreciated.

The records for Dungloe RC  are not available online and it appears baptismal records started in 1876. I was not able to locate a marriage record for Manus and Bridget. They were married pre-1864 (when civil registration started) and no church record is available. I see three civil records for children of Manus and Bridget: John Anthony 1864  Bridget (likely Delia) 1866 and Hanna 1869. The records can be found at the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie   I would presume that James was born pre-1864 and maybe other children.

  • Bridget McFadden would appear to be the daughter of Anthony McFadden and Bridget (nee Murphy) and probably born around 1836. She had brothers John (b1835) and James and these names would appear to have been passed down the family to her children. Anthony McFadden lived in Convoy although seems to have had a connection with Fintown although I have yet to find much. He was the son of James McFadden and Mairead Doherty and was born in Cruit c.1787 where his family held a lot of land. He is mentioned in the Griffiths Valuation in Convoy where he held several properties including the pub and was by all accounts a relatively well-off farmer and merchant. He died in 1889 aged 102 and is buried in Convoy RC cemetery although I have not yet found where Bridget was buried. I would be interested if you have any morefamily details.

A wee bit difficult to help when no dates of birth etc. are provided. However, there are 3 Manus Boyles in the list - link above - that I can see. Also, you might find other information if you look at the 1901 census for each townland. Hope this is helpful. Anne O'Kane

I know that Bridget was from Fintown and Dungloe after she married Manus Boyle. Bridget came to the US, I think after Manus died. Her two sons James and John and at least one daughter, Delia also came.
