  • I have checked the civil indexes and can find no birth of a William Carson on 12th July 1897 in what is now Northern Ireland. Nearest was 11th July 1897 in Ballymoney, mother?s maiden name Tweed.

I have searched for births of any children to parents named Carson & Frost between 1875 and 1905 in Northern Ireland and found none. I have looked for the family in the 1901 & 1911 censuses, and can?t find them there either. I also looked for a marriage between Henrietta Frost and anyone at all, and can?t find one, in Ireland.

There is a Henrietta Carson death registered in Belfast on 29.12.1903 aged 33.  You might want to view that to see if it?s your family. (?2 to view on the GRONI site).

I have found these probate extracts for Carson of Carnalea though none of them seem to link to the names you have given:

Probate of the Will of William Carson late of Carnalea County Down and of 41 Royal avenue Belfast Solicitor J.P. Clerk of the Peace who died 18 April 1900 at Carnalea granted at Belfast to Isabella Carson Widow.

Administration of the Estate of Robert Carson late of Carnalea House Crawfordsburn County Down Major who died 24 August 1916 in France granted at Belfast to William H. Carson Solicitor

Carson Isabella of Carnalea House Crawfordsburn county Down widow died 21 March 1928 Probate Belfast 7 May to William Harold Carson solicitor John Carson company director and Alan Hunter Carson engineer. Effects ?24263 5s. 2d.

Carson William Harold of Carnalea House Carnalea county Down retired solicitor died 27 December 1957 at Ards Hospital Newtownards county Down Probate Belfast 28 April to Georgina Helen Carson the widow and William Gifford Carson manufacturer's agent. Effects ?51263 15s. 8d.

Here?s the only Carson household in Carnalea in 1901:

    And in 1911:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Bangor/Carnalea/260199/

The above family contains a William G Carson born 22.9.1910. Mothers maiden name Georgina Helen Startin. (That couple married in Marylebone, London in Jan ? Mar 1909).

  • There are about five public trees on Ancestry which mention a William Garfield Carson, with the parents you mentioned and also matching the birth and death dates.  These all give a place of birth for William as 'Canada' or 'Kenora, Canada'.  (There are also several other which include come of the same basic detail)

Some of these trees have a few sources attached which I had a quick look at - the place and date of birth for this William seems to originate from a WW1 Military record. I didn't see any census links on any of these online trees to follow up on. It's possible the owners of these trees have established further detail they didn't include online so might be worth checking into these - they may be relations of yours

edit : the military record shows William attesting in January 1916 to the 94th Overseas Batt., Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. The form shows William's place of birth, last residence, and current address for his father James jnr. as 'Kenora, Ontario', and also date of birth of 12th July 1897

Based on the details entered on one of these trees, it appears that the possible Irish connection is quite a bit further back with William's grandfather, James Wylie Carson snr. This tree seems to be by user nancyhemphill62
