Trying to find any information on

Augustus Allan, (maybe spelled Allen, or variation)

Samuel , Thomas, William moved to Scotland in the early part of the 1800s

I am a direct descendent of Thomas ,

 

I have search all the on-line Irish records but can find no trace of the family or when Augustus got married. .. I think I will need to visit Ireland to look at local parish / church record s unless someone can help.. I would be very grateful for any information.. even a small scrap.

Many of Augustus's decendentds went to Austarilia and NZ.. I have been in contact with them and none can find out about Augustus. Hoping someone can help

  • You don?t say what denomination your Allan ancestors were. Judging by the general spread in the county in the 1901 census they were probably Presbyterian or Church of Ireland.

    If they were Church of Ireland, then Dromore parish records start in 1784. There are several Presbyterian churches in the area but none has any records before 1832. The Church of Ireland records do not appear to be on-line anywhere. There is a microfilm copy in PRONI in Belfast. You would either need to visit in person or arrange for someone else to do that for you.

    I looked in Griffiths Valuation but there were no Allans in Quilly in 1863. I also searched PRONI?s e-catalogue to look for any references to the Quilly family but they have none.

    None on Ros Davies Co. Down site either. (Researching in the 1700s in Ireland is fairly tricky. Very few records have survived

    I don't know what denomination they were but agree they were probably Presbyterian or Church of Ireland.

    I also checked the sources you have looked at without success, as you suggest, a visit to Belfast would probably be my best bet.. many thanks
