David Little and Elizabeth Jamison Martin, my second great grandparents, were married on 1 Oct 1856 in the Presbyterian Church Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland.

David Little was born on 31 May 1834 in County Down, Northern Ireland. His parents were **possibly** Andrew Thomas Little, who was born in 1807 in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and Mary Ann (Dickson) Little, born in 1810 in County Down, Northern Ireland.

David and Elizabeth immigrated in 1856 to Castle Garden, New York, NY. They lived in Ithaca, Tompkins, NY between 1857 and 1858,
in Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York between 1858 and 1863, and New Hartford, Oneida, NY in 1860. May have also lived in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. They moved to Oakland, Garrett, Maryland, to live near family by 1863 and remained in Oakland until their deaths.
David died on 28 Jan 1897 at the age of 62. Elizabeth died on 16 Aug 1898 at the age of 68.

Elizabeth Jamison Martin, daughter of John Joseph Martin and Mary (Jamison) Martin, was born in 1830 in Dromore, Down, Northern Ireland.
John Joseph Martin was born about 1810 in County Down, Northern Ireland and married Mary Jamison married before 1830.
Mary Jamison, daughter of Thomas Jamison, was born in 1810 in County Down, Northern Ireland. They both immigrated to the US, also in 1856, and settled in Oakland, MD. John Joseph died in 1870 at the age of 60 in Oakland, Garrett, Maryland, and Mary died in 1880 at the age of 70 also in Oakland, Garrett, MD.

Hope to find family and info on this Little family and determine for sure who David's parents were.

  • Hi,

Do you have any clues as to where Andrew Thomas Little, was from in Co Fermanagh?  Like a town or a townland?

  • thanks for responding. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on Andrew Little, as I seem to have lost my notes on how I even found this Andrew as a possibility. Rats! I can recall looking at a map and thinking that's just a few miles from Down ... I'll try to retrace my steps and hopefully find more to report.

    thanks again!

    UPDATE

just located a baptismal record, but it isn't the source I found earlier. Here's the text

BIRTHS RECORDED IN ST. MARYS CHURCH, ARDESS

25/10/1807 Thomas father: Andrew Little mother: Sarah Slaybane (Slievebane?)

  • I seem to be losing messages. Several replies including a reply to this thread, I have made do not appear on the system.

Littles are plentiful in Fermanagh. The reference you saw was for the son of Andrew and Sarah (surname Unknown) who lived in Slaybane, as per church record, which was guessed to refer to Sleivebane townland.

10 Jan 1811 this same couple baptised an Andrew.

  • Thanks Bob. I'm still working on retracing my steps that led me to postulate Andrew as David's father. It really bothers me that I can't find the citation, as I'm a stickler for documentation.

I appreciate your help so much and if/when I can find the lost info, I'll post.

As for missing replies - I'm so new that I'm still figuring things out and can't help you troubleshoot.

Shows 2 marriages in Down. David to Elizabeth Martin in 1856 both Davids have father Andrew. Only one listed in Banbridge Presbyterian Church. Rootsireland only has transcripts.

LDS shows this marriage with father Andrew.

    You can order a photocopy.

Order from GRO in Roscommon. Download form from website and FAX back. Should take 3 ? 5 weeks. Will give place of residence of both and both fathers. Might give ages but more than likely will say of full age.

Tick the box for photocopy NOT the one for full certificate. Use the reference below

    1856 Banbridge 2 - 585.

  • Thank you so much, Bob!! I so appreciate your dedicated assistance. I knew I could order the record, but wasn't sure if it would contain anything more than what can be seen at the LDS site; and I had no idea how to do so. Now I know!

I will be going over to GRO to order the photocopy.

    every good wish

  • I made the entry for Andrew and Mary Ann Dickson as parents of David in error. LDS site shows a birth record for an Ellizabeth Little d/o David and Mary Ann Dickson b. 1838. I recall thinking that perhaps Elizabeth was a sister to my David. But now knowing from the marraige record that his father's name was Andrew, I was wrong.

So far, no hits at LDS for his true parents. With the marriage record I hope I can.

    Sorry for any inconvenience!

    Thanks!
