My ggrandfather Hugh Hamilton was born in County Down in 1846. His father was James Hamilton. He married Eliza Wilson in 1865. They had Anne Eliza in 1868, William Rowan in 1872, Hugh in 1875, Margaret Jane in 1877, Isabella 1880, Martha in 1885, Mary in 1886 and James William in 1887. The family were members of the Church of Ireland - Drumgooland Parish. I am interested in any info. on this family & if there are any family members still living in the area. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks in advance. Karen

  • Hi Karen, after this long long time I have been asked to look at unanswered queries and the first point is we do not deal with living people as such and operate a 100 year rule for privacy etc. However the news is not all bad, there is a very active private Facebook group called County Down Genealogy with about 3,000 mmebers. Also this county Down website https://rosdavies.com/ and in more recent times the site here contains civil records for all since 1864 and 1845 for Protestant marriages, it is free but sign in, use civil icon as church records are not on for many counties. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

    Sorry for the delay,
