I am searching for ancestors of my great grandfather, James Graham, born 28/11/1851 in Kilkeel, and a shoemaker. He married Margaret Jane Scott, born c1858.

James Graham's parents were John Graham and Margaret Irvine (no dates).  In turn, John Graham's parents were John Graham (1795? Dumbarton, Scotland?) and Mary Lindock.

Margaret Jane Scott's parents were Duncan Scott (8/10/1823) and Margaret Armstrong (c1827).

I and several other Graham descendants have searched extensively, but cannot find any traces of anyone born before 1850.

Thank you very much to anyone who can help.

You don't mention the religious denomination. Were they C of I or Presbyterian? If they were C of I, you may want to contact the church to find out how far back they maintain records.

You may also want to check out the Ros Davies site which may be helpful.

Here is a link to the Kilkeel Presbyterian church.   http://www.kilkeelpc.com/

Looks like records for that church start in 1842.
