In the 1901 and 1911 census, I have located my William Carson Donning (married Sarah Jane McAlister) family in Newtownards at 45 Court Street.

His parents, John and Elizabeth Donning were in Belfast at 2 Keegan Street in 1876 at time of John's death.  One of their other sons, John Donning, married Margaret Nevins had a son, Robert Strafford Smith Donning and went to England.  Another son, James Donning, married Susan McKittrick.  Another son, Charles Henry Donning married Mary J McAlister.

Looking for any living relatives of this family who are also interested in tracing the family tree.

  • I suspect this Probate abstract may refer to one of William Carson Donning’s sons:

Donning Hugh of 17 Knockdarragh Park Belfast coach builder died 12 March 1946 Probate Belfast 30 October to Marion Donning widow. Effects £2704 15s. 6d.

He was 66 when he died and the occupation ties in with the 1901 census. Full file with the will should be in PRONI, in paper format.
