I am looking for a James Devlin, born in 1812, in Cabra, County Down, Ireland.  I cannot seem to find much on this Town and then it has Post Town Newry, so I am hoping that this is where I should be looking.

His parents are Stephen and Susan Devlin and he married Ann - They are in Boston, Massachusetts in 1850. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are also other Devlins, James and Margaret Devlin, who have Bridget Devlin born 1 May 1833, Sarah Devlin born 17 April 1834, and possibly John Devlin born in 1824, 1826 or 1832.

Thank You,

Diane

  • There are 2 townlands named Cabragh in Co Down in the general Newry area. One is in Clonduff parish, the other in Clonallan. Looking at Griffiths Valuation for 1864 there are plenty of Devlin households in Clonduff and none in the other, so I’d say your family are more likely to have come from the one in Clonduff. That’s a mile or two east of Hilltown.

Unfortunately Clonduff RC parishes baptism records don’t start till 1850 so if that’s where the family originated, there won’t be a baptism record.

No Devlins in Cabra in 1901:
