I am trying to find the parents of Robert hatch bt 1805 who married Mary Ann Thompson in Newry down in 1828 they had Sophia 1828 and William hatch 1830 before they came to Tasmania Australia bt 1832 Robert had a bakers shop in Newry next door to the thompsons not sure if Mary was a member or relative of this family her parents appear from the children to be Sophia thompson and James Thompson They settled in Queanbeyan then Goulburne NSW Australia

My aunt recorded with Mary Ann Warman the thousands of descendants from this couple who came to Austealia many from Ireland Their son Robert Hatch 1839 married a Mary Ann Fallon, Mary Ann Dwyer and Catherine Mary Smith in all he had 20 children and step children  approximately he is my line

I have only been able to find a James hatch in Newry a cabinet maker and some hannons but no other hatches or heenans he was born pre 1800 This family later lived in Belfast and many sons  went into the police force but have no distinct links that I can connect them to

I would appreciate any help as family has been looking for these ancestors for over twenty years

  • Jeanne unfortunately the records for Newry do not start till 1848 and only marriage records till the Civil registration in Ireland is rolled out in 1864

  • Thankyou for your prompt reply I believe my  hatch family was not Catholic probably Protestant so would St Particks in Newry be useful to contact

Additionally I did find where Robert lived near Newry in about 1828 and know where his shop was would that assist me in finding his father and mother not sure where to go next

    Cheers Jeanne

  • Robert hatch was born about 1805 he was my gggrandfather my aunt found records of the deed of sale of his shop nr warrennpoint and newry located next door to the Thompsons in 1830

He sold his bakers shop to a malcolmson mary ann thompson born1807 fathet james thompson we believe may be related but think she may have lived in warrenpoint On her birth certificate her father is noted as James Thompson no name of mother but midname of her daughter is yeats so we assumed this was her.mothers maiden name

On his death certificate robert has his father as william hatch and mother Jane Heenan but her daughters first daughter js a sophia hatch so maybe it was sophia jane

I found robert hatch 1805 marriage in the Crossley files also a mention of t b em in the Oggle descendants not a direct relly though I also found robert in the griffiths valuations

Hopefully se can fi d his father and mother closest link is to the county louth hatches and also names simiar to the clefk of Portsea in Hampshire

Family is eager to resolve this problem

    Many thanks
    Jeanne
