I have traced my Orr connections back to farming in Welshestown/ Russels Quarter North from 1789 onwards.  I have leases for Mathew Orr dated 1789 and his sons William and Thomas who died in 1858 and 1851 respectively. This family is buried in Ballyculter, but they are closer to Saul church.

Later marriages are with the Torneys, which are also from this area.

I am interested in connecting with anyone who is researching Orrs in the Downpatrick, Saul, Ballyculter or Strangford area.

Their are other Orr families in Carrowcarlin and Kilclief areas. I have the lease agreement for James Orr in Carrowcarlin which states he is 65 years old in 1790. Because this townland is just next door to Welshestown/Walshestown, I am wondering if they are connected.

  • Hi Brenda,

    Thank you for your message.

Do you have any further information regarding the family that may assist others in making a connection for you?

Also the more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Best of luck,
