William Neil/Niel arrived in Australia on the ship "Mandarin" in 1838, he and his wife were brought out

by the Governemt because they could read and write, he opened a school at Parramatta, Sydney, NSW

He was a native of Tullylish County Down born c1811 his father being Samuel Neil a Farmer his mother

Anne Cherry.

His wife was Mary Jane Morton a native of Banbridge County Down born c 1811. Her Father was

Joseph Morton and mother was Rebecca A Fraser.

The name was changed to Neill is Australia.

They left Ireland with three children Rebecca Anne born 10 Feb 1833, Samuel born 16 Jan 1835,

Fraser bborn c1836 who died and was buried at sea.

They had another 11 children in Australia and it seems only three or four made it through to adulthood.

William died  15 Sept 1855 at Parramatta Sydney NSW, May Jane died 24 Aug 1898.
