Hi
I hope you can help me please. I have my 2nd Great-grand parents James & Jane Bergin marriage church record dated 22 February 1846 at St Nicholas Church, Dublin. Also my Great-grand father Christopher's baptism church record dated in the in the same year 30th December 1846.
I have Christopher's marriage certificate which is dated 17 October 1869 which states he was married at at S.S Michael and John Church, Dublin.
I have found in my research a 'James Bergan' year of birth 1813 his father is named as Christopher. Looking at this there appears that there has been a Christopher Bergin listed in
my ancestry  family tree from 1846, 1875, 1904 and 1942.
Would I be right in thinking that James Bergin born 1813 could be my 2nd Great-grand father and his father Christopher Bergan is my 3nd Great- grand father ?
Any help would be much appreciated on this as I have done a lot of extensive research
Thanks
Jim Bergin

  • Dear Jim:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.

You are right to think that the James Bergin born in 1813 might be a relation in your family tree.  You will need to find further evidence to tie him to your family in order to confirm this.

You might take a closer look at the church records in St. Nicholas' church in Dublin and even consider other city churches.  They are available through the Irish Genealogy website.

The best of luck with your research and a very Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
