I have discovered that I have Irish roots and that my Irish Family were the Stewarts who were from Dublin. I am particularly looking for information on my Grandfather John Stewart who was born in 1912. I know that the family had a leather or shoe repair shop (something similar) that was situated at 16 Lower Clanbrassil Street. I visited the area in 2007 but of course the shop is long gone. If anyone has any information pertaining to the shop and the family I would love to know, or if I could be pointed in the right direction it would be so good. John Stewart is my mothers natural father... he moved to England at some point and married having a number of children. Sadly my mother was put up for adoption and has only recently discovered her roots. What she and I would dearly love to see is a photograph of John Stewart or any of the family members. Thank you for reading this

  • No. 16 Lwr. Clanbrassil street is shown as tennements in Thom's 1914, and on the building returns ( Form B.1.) for the 1911 census is shown shared by five households. Number 16 was close to the junction with William's PLace.

The 1911 census shows a bootmaker business closeby at number 35, an M. Shulman,  that Anthony may have worked for.

  • Hello,Kaye here from Dublin City.

Your Stewart Ancestors seem to be in the 1901/11 Census of Ireland. www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Anthony Stewart seems to be the Boot/Shoemaker.His dad Anthony came from Kings County.

Anthony JR.married Elizabeth and in the 1911 Census they were still having Children. So your John Stewart could have been born in 1912,were they are still living at Clanbrassil St Lower

.Different addresses, which is not unusual as people moved around quiet a bit,but stayed in their area.Community was very important as families shared with each other.

    Kind Regards

    Kaye.
