To Whom It May Concern:

Hello. How are you?  I hope this message finds you well.  

My grandfather was John Andrew Clancy, 1892-1958.  He was one of four males and one female born to Laurence Clancy, circa 1829-1899, and Maria Carty, 1854-1930.  Maria Carty was really Margaret Hynes born in Scotland to Irish parents from County Mayo.  

This was Laurence Clancy's second marriage.  He was married to Bridget nee Rooney, 1840-1880, first.  Five children were issued by this marriage.  

In 1884 when he married "Maria Carty" he stated his father as Patrick.  I have searched for Patrick Clancy and I have found no information on him.  Or to whom he was married.  

I am wondering who was Patrick Clancy.  Whom did he marry.  Also, more information on the Clancys of Tomrud townland specifically.  

All help is appreciated.

    The Killasnet RC records do not begin until 1852 so we won't be able to find a baptismal record for Laurence.

    I looked at land records and for the Tithe listings from the late 1820s there is a record of Hugh Clancy, Bryan Clancy and James Clancy each leasing seven acres of land in Tomrud (Toamrud)

    The 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Tomrud shows Bryan, James, and Hugh plus a Charles Clancy.  Don't know why Patrick is not listed.

  • I looked at the baptismal records on rootsireland for Mary, Bryan, Bridget, Patrick, and Laurence Clancy, the first five children born to Laurence Clancy.  According to Irish naming patterns, the first son was generally named after the paternal grandfather, the second after the maternal grandfather.  But here, the first son is Bryan. Perhaps Laurence's father was called Bryan. Perhaps when he provided the information to the registrar, the registrar made a mistake.

    Hello. How are you?  Thanks for these replies. Much appreciated.

     

    I have done the exact research as you guys.  Patricia I thought the same as you.  But in 1884 the marriage record states the father as Patrick.  

     

    In 1868 a Bryan Clancy passes at 83.  Laurence Clancy is the informant.  But I think Bryan may have been Laurence's uncle.

    Thanks for the response. Much appreciated.  Yes, if you can, can you have someone with knowledge of Tomrud or Killasnet Catholic parish take a look at my posting.  

     

    The resesrch you posted above. I did that as well.  Maybe somebody knows Killasnet or old newspapers.  

     

    I was hoping these boards would provide more.
