My name is John Carmichael - direct descendant of my recently discovered (for me) James and Ann Carmichael of Aghalurcher, as they are listed in the 1821 Census, with their 6 children. I am descended from Michael Carmichael, the youngest recorded in the family. I am visiting the parish from 15th to 20th September 2015, with my wife, Angela, where we hope to see the area where James had his farm in 1821. Perhaps there's also some graves at the church, which I understand to be at Lisnaskea. Any helps or hints would be very gratefully received. Much in anticipation for this trip. John Carmichael

Hi John,
Aghalurcher is located partly in Armagh and partly in Fermanagh in Northern Ireland so this will be the first hurdle, we will need to find out where exactly they lived and died. Do you have names of the children and estimated birth years maybe?
There is a James Carmichael listed in the Griffiths valuation of 1862 living in the townland of Drumrainy in the parish of Cleenish in co Fermanagh http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNam…
Unfortunately James is not listed in the Tithe Applotment books for 1823 to 1837

Thanks for your reply, Anne-Marie. I found my ancestor James Carmichael living in Mountgibbon townland, Aghalurcher. He is listed in the 1821 census with his family and my gggrandfather Michael is the youngest son. I've also looked at the townland map for Mongibbaghan, so I can see approximately where they lived now, and that will be useful for my visit next week. I'm hoping to find more evidence of the family and hopefully learn something more about them. Thanks so much for your interest! John Carmichael
